Bethlehem – Jericho – Jordan River – Jerusalem

Bethlehem

Today we hit the road to Bethlehem in the West Bank, just a 20 minutes drive from Jerusalem. The major attraction is the ancient Church of the Nativity, where one can touch the very place where Jesus was born.

Jericho

Drive to Jericho, believed to be the oldest city, but definitely the lowest settlement in the world. Start with a photo stop at the old Sycamore Tree. According to the Bible the tax collector Zacchaeus climbed up on this tree to have a better look at Jesus.

Jordan River

Continue to the Jordan river where Jesus was baptize by John the Baptist.

Jerusalem Old City – Mt Olives – Mahane Yehuda - Jerusalem

Jerusalem Old City

Rise and shine for an early start of your Jerusalem tour. We enter the Old City through the Lion’s Gate, known also as St. Stephen’s Gate; stopping at St. Anne's Church and the Pool of Bethesda. Then we follow the 14 stations of the Way of the Cross, the Via Dolorosa, ending at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. The church is built over the place where Jesus was crucified, buried and resurrected.

Mt Olives

Afternoon short drive to the Mount of Olives for a spectacular view of the city and the most important Jewish cemetery. Walk down Palm Sunday Road to the Garden of Gethsemane. We see along the way the Chapel of Ascension, the Pater Noster Church, the Dominus Flevit Church and the Maria Magdalena Church, marking all important events in the life of Jesus.

Mahane Yehuda

Ending the day at Mahane Yehuda market to watch the locals shop and smell the culinary delights of the little cafés. Overnight Jerusalem hotel.

Day 4
Masada – Ein Gedi – Dead Sea – Jerusalem

Masada

After breakfast we drive around 2 hours to Masada. It is an important archaeological site and a symbol of Jewish heroism. In 66 AD the Great Revolt of the Jews against the Romans broke out, and a group, known as the Sicarii, took over Masada. The Romans besieged several months the fortress and when it became clear they will take over, all Jewish inhabitants of Masada committed suicide. Nowadays a cable car ride takes you up and down to the top. High above the surrounding desert explore the excavated ruins of the castle, the storerooms, and the cisterns.

Ein Gedi

Short ride to the Oasis of Ein Gedi, known since the days of King David. Ein Gedi, where four springs with fresh water meet the desert sun, is a place to enjoy the rich and unique flora and fauna.

Dead Sea

Continue to the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth. The water of the lake is so salty, it allows you to float.

Jerusalem

Drive back to your hotel in Jerusalem.

Nazareth – Sea of Galilee – Capernaum – Tabgha – Yardenit – Jerusalem

Nazareth

Breakfast at the hotel. We drive 30 minutes to Nazareth, the boyhood town of Jesus. Visit the Church of the Annunciation, marking the spot where the angel Gabriel informed Maria about her pregnancy. See also Mary’s Well whose waters are believed to have healing powers, and if you like St Joseph’s Church, where the carpentry shop thought to have existed.

Sea of Galilee

Have a scenic boat ride on the Sea of Galilee.

Tabgha

A short ride and you reach Tabgha, where the miracle of multiplication of loaves and fishes took place. See the Church of the Multiplication and the Church of the Primacy right on the shores of the Sea of Galilee.

Mt of Beatitudes

A short hop from Tabgha is the Mt of Beatitudes where Jesus held the Sermon of the Mount. Nowadays you find here a Franciscan Church and a tranquil garden.

Capernaum

Last stop to Capernaum, once a fishing village, home to the apostles James, Peter, Andrew and John. Visit the remains of the House of Peter and the 4th century synagogue.

Jerusalem

Return to your hotel in Jerusalem and overnight.

Check-out and pickup hotel lobby. Transfer about one hour to Ben Gurion Airport and time to say goodbye to the Holy Land.
